Masquerades, hidden identities and pretenses are as old as human society whereby people put on a facade to achieve their goals, to become likable and to feel more free. In our new exhibition we invited two young artists with Ukrainian roots, whose works seem, at first approach, very different. Nevertheless they reflect the human desire and tradition to disguise oneself. When Irinas works concentrate on the old tradition of carnivals and fantasies, Valentynas works show today’s pressure of fulfilling certain standards in life. Exhibiting both artists together constructs a dialogue of space and time.

Beauties” exhibits artworks of painter Ina Dederer. She developed her own painting style over many years as a pop artist being inspired by painters like Klimt, Richter and Picasso.

Her magnificent artworks include forms of deliberately experimental procedures, as well as artfully combined painting-styles with elements of reproduction-art, pop surrealism, art nouveau and modern classical.

Her expressionist yet figurative paintings illustrate bodies and characters through the painter’s own aesthetics. The artist combines strong contrast and pastel colors to transmit the reality as she sees it. Her depiction of daily life is strongly influenced by her personal experiences. Valentyna’s paintings allegorize an encounter with contemporary society and its imagery of perfectness.

The artist Irina Basalik El Houri

Her paintings embody the secret wishes and dreams of the human soul. In her work aspects of European culture are linked with oriental traditions. Irina’s strong imagination and her dreams are an important source of inspiration for her paintings. Lively figures and abstract bodies play and dance on her canvases, fish fly, a violin smokes a cigarette - Irina’s world is full of surrealist sceneries.
